Thanksgiving Day and Our Catholic Faith
Immediately, when we think of Thanksgiving Day, we are reminded of the pilgrims, the Native Americans and the feast they shared centuries ago. Rightfully so. But the Catholic needs to go beyond the day and focus on the daily. In fact, our Eucharist each Sunday simply means "thanksgiving".
How blessed we are to have all the freedoms we share as Americans. I know when we think of our families, friendships and the opportunities we have, we raise a prayer to Almighty God giving him thanks. Also, as Catholics, we need to be vigilant in being faithful to Sunday worship as our heavenly Father teaches us through the Ten Commandments. It is His teaching and will for us that we render thanks weekly during Sunday Mass.
May I encourage all our families to start anew giving thanks to God by attending holy Mass as a family? Perhaps you may also want to invite your friends or other Catholics and individuals who do not have a spiritual home to join us for holy Mass on Thanksgiving Day. This is a great way to give witness to Christ and to grow in grace. In addition, I invite families and individuals to register as PARISHIONERS. You may find the registration forms in a white binder in the vestibule or go on line or stop in at the church office, 3924 Berkeley Street. You may also call the office, 985-643-4137, to register your family as parishioners of Our Lady of Lourdes Church.
-Happy Thanksgiving Blessings from Father Paysse, Father Cletus, Father Karol, Deacon Pete, Deacon Warren, Deacon Michael, and the Parish staff.
